Vienna, April 18, 2026 – Runners and spectators at this year’s Vienna City Marathon (VCM) should prepare for a split weather weekend. While Saturday offers nearly perfect spring conditions for the youth and side events, Sunday’s main marathon day is expected to turn noticeably more unsettled, according to forecasts from Geosphere Austria.

Sunny, Calm Conditions on Saturday

Saturday promises ideal weather for the children’s, school, and fun runs. Forecasts call for clear skies, hardly any clouds, and almost no wind throughout the day. Morning temperatures of around 7°C will rise to a pleasant 20°C by the afternoon. These conditions are also expected to draw many visitors to the course.

Sunday Brings a Weak Cold Front and Rain

The main race day on Sunday will look very different. A weak cold front is expected to move across Vienna, bringing increasing cloud cover from the early morning hours. While the day may start dry, rain is forecast to begin around midday and continue into the evening, affecting both marathon and half‑marathon participants.

Despite the thicker clouds, temperatures may still reach up to 22°C, and winds will pick up slightly in the afternoon, adding to the challenge of running in wet conditions.

What This Means for Runners

With the 43rd Vienna City Marathon once again drawing thousands of participants, many will need to adjust their race strategy and gear for Sunday’s rain. Breathable, water‑repellent clothing and a plan for staying warm after crossing the finish line are recommended.
